Today Ethan began his career as a high school student, Abby started middle school, and Gracie transitioned to the big kids' world in elementary school (meaning the green and tan playground instead of the tamer blue and yellow one, among other things).
The family member who struggled most with these transitions? Randy. He always gets nostalgic and depressed when he feels the years zooming by. The poor guy spent the morning clutching his upset stomach, trying to come to terms with the fact that we are indeed the parents of a full-fledged high schooler. (Apparently the fact that Ethan's been playing high school soccer every day for the past month did nothing to prepare Randy for reality of actual high school).
Ethan himself had no trepidation about starting a new school, and left the house with a big smile. Abby was a little more nervous. Gracie? Well, it was a mostly smooth morning, although there may have been one angry outburst from her room about "stupid jeans," following a battle with an uncooperative adjustable waistband. (She voiced her opinions via the baby monitor, of course).

"I insist on being a part of everything my siblings do!"

And what might one do, if one's siblings were away for the day? Why, quietly sneak into their rooms and rifle through those off-limit drawers! I caught her red-handed with a tin of Tic Tacs from Abby's nightstand. It was all very funny until I took away the candy and removed her from Abby's room. Then the anger erupted. (I should have photographed that).
