I contacted our adoption specialist today to ask when they are expecting the next batch of referrals to take place. There haven't been any in 5 or 6 weeks, which is unusual. She said they think it will be another 3 weeks or so before they have more referrals. We are near the top of the waiting list so we should get a referral in the next batch. I'm not positive what the delay is, although I have heard there are a lot of kids in the care center in Addis Ababa waiting to be picked up in July by traveling adoptive parents, because there was a huge bunch of referrals in May and June. Anyway, we won't be jumping when the phone rings until mid-August.
We actually aren't too frustrated with the delay, even though this is taking longer than we expected. The courts are going to be closing soon in Addis Ababa anyway, meaning that even if we got a referral tomorrow we'd still have to wait for the courts to reopen in October to complete the legal process, before we could travel. The waiting game will be harder once we know there is a specific little person waiting for us across the globe!
